Brainspotting
Anywhere in Oregon and California
Sometimes talking about it isn’t enough.
You can understand why you feel the way you do. You can recognize the pattern. You can talk about it, analyze it, and know exactly where it came from, and still feel stuck.
Brainspotting gives us another way to work with what’s happening beneath all that thinking.
So… what is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a therapy technique that uses your visual field to help you access and process emotions, memories, and experiences that may be difficult to reach through talking alone.
During a session, I’ll help you find a particular point in your visual field—or a “brainspot”—that seems connected to what you’re experiencing.
From there, we slow things down and notice what happens.
You might become aware of emotions, memories, physical sensations, images, or thoughts. You don’t have to force anything or figure out what it means. Your job is simply to notice. I’ll be there with you while your brain and body do the processing.
When I might use Brainspotting
I often bring Brainspotting into therapy when you know something intellectually, but knowing it hasn’t changed how you feel.
It can be especially helpful when you find yourself saying things like:
“I know this shouldn’t bother me anymore, but it does.”
“I understand where this comes from, but I can’t seem to change it.”
“I’ve talked about this so many times and still feel stuck.”
That gap between what you know and what you feel is often where deeper, more experiential work can be helpful.
Brainspotting is one tool we can use together, not something you have to do. Some sessions may involve Brainspotting, while others might be conversation, CBT, mindfulness, somatic work, or a combination of approaches.
