Art Therapy
Remote therapy in Oregon and California
A different way to explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
Sometimes you know something is bothering you, but you can’t quite find the words for it. Or maybe you’ve talked something to death and still feel stuck.
That’s where art therapy can help.
Art therapy gives us another way to explore emotions, patterns, memories, and experiences that can be difficult to put into words. Instead of only talking about what you’re feeling, we can use creativity to slow things down, get curious, and see what comes up.
And no… you do not need to be “good at art.”
So… what does art therapy actually look like?
Honestly? It depends on you.
We might use drawing, painting, collage, writing, imagery, or other creative exercises to explore something you’re working through. Sometimes the art becomes the focus of the session.
Why I use art therapy
If you’re someone who spends a lot of time thinking, analyzing, planning, or trying to figure everything out, traditional talk therapy can sometimes keep you in the exact place you already spend most of your time: your head.
Art therapy gives us another way in.
It can help you notice what you’re feeling, make sense of experiences that feel tangled or hard to explain, and connect with parts of yourself that might not show up through words alone.
Sometimes a scribble really does say more than a perfectly thought-out sentence.
Other times, it simply helps us get somewhere that talking alone wasn't getting us.
There’s no pressure to make something beautiful, meaningful, or even recognizable.
This isn’t art class. There’s nothing to perform and nothing to get right.
